Sonshine School
The Developmental Preschool
Program of
Immanuel United Methodist Church

2007-2008

Sonshine School is operated as an outreach ministry of the congregation of Immanuel United Methodist Church.  As one of Northern Kentucky’s oldest private preschool programs, we take pride in having provided safe, loving, developmental child care in a Christian environment since 1971.  Our weekly or twice-weekly sessions allow parents time in four hour blocks to attend to personal matters with confidence that their children are happy and secure while they learn.

In this, our thirty-sixth year of quality preschool education,
we remain committed to the belief that all of God’s children are special,
so we treat them that way!

Your Child’s Day

Our classes are divided by birth dates into six different classrooms.  Each of our younger classes is staffed by a teacher and a teacher aide. Older three and four year old classes are each taught by a teacher with a parent assistant.  We also have an extra assistant on staff that is available to any class where she is needed.  All staff members are certified annually in infant/child CPR and first aide.  All adults in our classrooms are screened annually to assure your child’s safety.

The children spend most of their day in their classrooms involved in a daily routine that includes devotions, free play, art activities, snacks, lunch, stories and sharing time. Each class also spends time in the gym on the climbing and riding toys, in the music room for singing, and on the playground.

Our classrooms are stocked with toys carefully chosen to help in your child’s growth and development.  Imagination corners for make-believe, small manipulative toys for eye/hand coordination, craft supplies and books keep us busy all day.

Schedule and Times

Sonshine School is in session 32 weeks per school year.  We try to follow the Kenton County Public Schools’ calendar for vacation and break days, but are sometimes in session when they are not.

Classes are in session from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. for most of the school year.  During September, our two year old classes have an abbreviated schedule, and dismiss at noon.  Children may not go to class before 9:25 a.m., and must be picked up promptly at 1:30 p.m.

Needs and Requirements

Each classroom teacher will give her students a specific list of necessities for the school year.  Generally, the children need a sack lunch each day, a medium weight change of clothing,
and paper diapers, if not fully toilet trained.

We have nearly 200 students during the week, so please be sure to label everything
your child brings to school.

Music Classes

Sonshine School is pleased to be able to offer to our children music classes using Musikgarten’s “God’s Children Sing” curriculum.  There is no additional charge for these classes, which incorporate Bible stories with songs, instruments and dance.

Musikgarten is a whole child music and movement program that engages children in age-appropriate activities designed to further their intellectual, artistic and spiritual growth.  We learn songs, rhythm and tonal patterns and stories through music and movement.  It is an excellent beginning to a musical education, and lays a foundation for musical literacy and a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
