Local Missions
Immanuel Mission Activity
- Interfaith Hospitality Network – consortium of churches that provide housing for homeless families on a rotating basis.
- Ida Spence – support for the Ida Spence Mission at City Heights.
- Youth Mission Trips – this year, a mission trip to Louisville to assist in housing rehabilitation or other outreach activities.
- Grace Youth Missions Trip - this year went to St. Louis to work on housing rehabilitation.
- People Working Cooperatively/ISP /Prepare Affair– support and volunteers for projects to help keep people, particularly the elderly, living in their own homes.
- Immanuel Quilters – makes and distributes quilts to children at the Versailles Children’s Home
- Sewing His Love – makes various items for cancer victims and survivors.
- Immanuel groups that went to Katrina area – several groups went to the Katrina disaster area to work on rehab projects. Immanuel Youth went two consecutive years.
- Katrina relief supplies (two semis) – relief effort that provided supplies to the Katrina relief effort. Also collected $25,000 for UMCOR and coordinated some relief efforts in the Covington District.
- Sunday Night Live – a weekly event of community outreach at Grace that attracts 150 to 200 persons every Sunday evening.
- New Hope Food Pantry – a once a month food pantry to help families at the end of the month that have run out of food.
- Grace Food Pantry – a food pantry at Grace that provides food for families in the Grace community; open in conjunction with Sunday Night Live.
- HONK – Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky – working with PSC, works on minor rehab projects; frequent involvement of the Youth.
- Tender Mercies – provides once a month meals as outreach in Over The Rhine
- Fairhaven – provides support and frequently surplus food to this men’s shelter.
- UMW—Holly Hills – a home for girls that is visited and supported by the UMW.
- Cinderella’s Closet – a now annual event in which qualified girls are provided with prom dresses, shoes and accessories so that they may feel special.
- Thanksgiving Baskets – about 75 baskets are distributed annually in the community from food and turkeys donated by the congregation.
- Christmas Baskets - about 75 baskets are distributed annually in the community from food and turkeys donated by the congregation.
- Russia Mission – Immanuel supports the St. Peter and Paul United Methodist Church in Vorenzh, Russia both through work teams and financially.
- Ghana Mission – and Library Project – the Methodist Faith Healing Hospital in Ankaasse, Ghana is supported financial and by work teams from Immanuel. The Reading Town Library project is supported separately through fund raising by Immanuel groups.
- TREC – Teen Residence Experiencing Christ – a prison ministry for young men.
- Kids In Mission – children at Immanuel that provide offering support for missions.
- Backpacks and Breakfast—a community program to provide inner-city children with backpacks and school supplies in August
- Pastor’s Helping Hand Fund – a ministry support from special offerings during communion that provides emergency assistance to those in need.
- Card Ministry – a group of volunteers that make and send cards to people both within and outside the congregation facing illness, death or other issues in their lives.
- United Ministries – an ecumenical community group that provides emergency aid to individuals and families.
- 30 Hour Famine – Global Vision – an activity of the Immanuel Youth, which brings home the issues of famine in the world and also raises money for Global Vision.
- United Methodist Home for Children and Youth (Versailles & Owensboro) – special offerings and volunteers for the children’s’ homes.
- Have a Heart for Seniors (Wesley Village and Wesley Manor) – special offerings for support of these retirement communities that have a special focus on retired clergy and missionaries.
- Covington Children’s Choir – a choir made up of inner city children who are taught the importance of working as a team and of their own importance.
- Upward Basketball – a spiritually based instructional basketball experience that reaches into the community.
- VBS – three Vacation Bible Schools that attract children 5 to 10 for experiencing Christ; a majority of the children are not from Immanuel.
- Prepare Affair – November event to help prepare homes of IUMC members and others in N. Ky. for winter; i.e., raking leaves, putting away outdoor furniture or simple winterization activities.
- Recovery by Grace – a support group at Grace for those addressing the issues of addiction.
- Recovery Inc. - – a support group at Immanuel for those addressing the issues of addiction.
- AA – Alcoholics Anonymous -- several support groups at Immanuel for those addressing the issues of addiction.
- NA – Narcotics Anonymous - several support groups at Immanuel for those addressing the issues of addiction
